The 40 different sculptures are hand-sculpted as abstract and non-specific objects resembling elements of both nature and the human body. They appear asymmetrical, open, and broken, with part of the surface turned inside out. The plaster pieces can be seen as holsters whose contents have left, referencing Julia Kristeva’s theory on “the abject” and our relationship to material that the body will not let go of. The photograph depicts a mountainside and a specific material in abstract formations, shaped by both chance and higher powers. Without a visible horizon, the picture appears as both claustrophobic and beautiful at the same time.
